If you’re concerned about visiting an emergency room, rest assured that Sugar Land ER is taking every possible precaution to protect your health. Our facility is committed to maintaining a safe, sanitized environment for every patient.
We’ve implemented the following safety measures:
Universal Masking: Everyone entering the facility is required to wear a mask. Our medical team wears full personal protective equipment (PPE) and follows strict hygiene protocols. Please arrive with a face covering.
Health Screenings: All visitors are screened upon arrival. This includes a temperature check and symptom questionnaire to help identify potential COVID-19 cases early.
Social Distancing: Our waiting and check-in areas are arranged to ensure proper distancing. We also maintain minimal wait times to reduce potential contact with others.
Frequent Disinfection: High-touch areas, restrooms, exam rooms, and common spaces are cleaned thoroughly and frequently. Every patient room is fully sanitized before and after each visit.
Patient Isolation: Patients with suspected COVID-19 symptoms are treated in dedicated isolation rooms to limit exposure and protect others in the facility.
Can I Get Tested for COVID-19?
While we offer COVID-19 testing as part of emergency care, we are not a public testing center. If you only need a test and are not experiencing symptoms, please visit a designated testing site. If you are symptomatic, you are welcome to visit Sugar Land ER for evaluation and care.
What If I Need Financial Help?
We understand that many families are facing financial difficulties. If you are unable to afford your care, let us know when you arrive. We offer discounted rates and financial assistance options to help ensure cost does not prevent you from receiving the emergency care you need.
Sugar Land ER remains open 24/7 to serve you and your family. Our board-certified physicians are here to provide safe, expert care whenever you need it. Your health and safety are our top priorities. Please reach out if you have any questions.
COVID-19 Care
At Sugar Land Emergency Room, we currently provide COVID-19 CARE to patients who meet certain risk factors or present with symptoms. Testing is performed as part of a full emergency evaluation during your visit.
Our in-house rapid COVID-19 tests are billed to insurance between $200 and $399, not including the emergency care portion. For patients without insurance, we offer flexible cash rates and financial assistance options based on eligibility.
Sugar Land ER may also offer molecular (PCR) COVID-19 testing at the discretion of the attending physician. Samples are collected on-site by our clinical team and processed by outside laboratories. These labs set their own pricing and will bill separately. Results may take up to 7 days. All expected costs are disclosed during your visit.
While we do provide COVID-19 testing as part of ER care, we are not a dedicated public testing center. If that is what you need, visit the Texas Coronavirus website or dial 2-1-1 and choose Option 6: https://www.texas.gov/covid19/

Who Is Eligible for Testing?
COVID-19 testing is available at Sugar Land ER, regardless of symptoms. All testing is ordered at the provider’s discretion based on clinical need.
Why Early Testing Matters
Testing early improves outcomes by identifying positive cases (both symptomatic and asymptomatic) before they spread illness. It also helps with contact tracing and contributes to broader public health tracking.
Why Sugar Land ER Offers COVID-19 Testing
Our goal is to provide fast, high-quality care without long waits. Offering COVID-19 CARE is part of that mission. Broad access to testing plays a critical role in minimizing spread, supporting faster diagnoses, and protecting our community.
Rapid COVID-19 Point-of-Care Testing
Sugar Land ER uses the SARS Antigen Fluorescent Immunoassay (FIA) to detect active COVID-19 infections. This test identifies the presence of specific antigens related to the virus in a patient’s sample. It is authorized by the FDA under Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) and is designed to quickly confirm current infections.
What are the benefits?
-
All testing is performed directly on-site at Sugar Land ER.
-
Test results are typically available within 15 minutes.
-
Quick identification of your COVID-19 status allows you to take immediate precautions to protect others in your home or workplace. A positive result lets you isolate without delay.
What happens if the test result is positive?
A positive test result strongly indicates an active COVID-19 infection. Proteins from the virus were detected in your sample. A provider will review the result with you promptly and guide you through the next steps for care and isolation.
What happens if the test result is negative?
A negative result means viral proteins were not detected in your sample. This usually indicates no active infection. Even with a negative test, standard precautions like handwashing and masking should continue as recommended.
Are there risks to the test?
-
Some discomfort may occur during the sample collection process.
-
There’s a small chance of inaccurate results, including false positives or false negatives. Our trained staff follow strict protocols to ensure accuracy and minimize error during testing.
